Belly Button Maternity Tummy Guide

How do maternity sizes work?
Maternity clothes are designed to fit your new shape, bottoms are cut longer in the rise, and fuller through the hips giving you room to grow. Tops and dresses are cut fuller through the bust line and hips, giving you the room where you need it. Hemlines are cut longer in the front, so the more you show the more your hemline evens out.

How do maternity tummy's work?
At Belly Button we are always looking for new innovations to ensure that firstly, your clothing lasts from those first early months, right through your pregnancy, and again after the birth of your baby. And Secondly, that their is a style of pant to suit your own individual preference. That is why we have five different styles of maternity tummy in our pants and skirts. These are:

Hipster Style
Always the first to bring you new gear - many of our styles now come in our famous hipsters. This unique patented design, sits low under your belly like your favorite hipster and may also have a zip like your normal jeans and skirts. . The waistband has a small internal drawstring so that the pants can be adjusted depending on your tummy size.

Undertummy™ Style Pants
Pants with the Undertummy™ waistband are worn like your favourite hipsters (only more comfortable). Once again this unique patented design has a soft stretch waistband which sits very comfortably under the tummy. This waistband is slightly higher and wider than the waistband in the Hipster style and gently supports your tummy and lower back. This unique design means these pants will still fit perfectly from those first early months until the birth of your baby. A good choice for those of you with rapidly expanding tummies.

Beginning To Baby (Flat Front Tummy)
Amazing - there is no maternity panel, and no gathering in the front, just our special cut stomach that will stretch from flat tummy to 9 months and back again. This style will sit above your belly and provide support to your belly. These pants have our unique Belly Adjust™ waistband at the back. This means you can tighten or expand the buttonholed elastic in the back waistband, as you require. A good choice for tiny tummies and beyond.

Adjustable Waistband
Many of our pants and skirts have an adjustable buttonholed elastic waistband, which goes around the entire pant from front to back. This means you can pull the elastic in to whichever size you are, and as you grow, let the buttonholes out so that the waistband will expand with you. Great for bigger growing tummies.

Drawstring Waistband
Just like it sounds, a comfortable adjustable drawstring waistband.

Maternity Panel
A favourite for many of you, and used when a fabric does not allow an alternative, or would not be the most comfortable on your stomach, such as leather. Once again pants with a maternity panel have our adjustable waistband.

Elastic Waist
This type of maternity wasit is reseved for very stretchy fabrics that can grow as much as you do. This tummy will sit above your tummy and is supported by a small soft elastic waistband.

Why do I need maternity clothes?

Maternity clothes are designed for women that are expecting, which is why when you wear regular or plus size clothing, you do not get the tailored fit you are hoping to achieve. You may be currently wearing regular clothes in larger sizes rather than maternity wear. Our maternity wear is designed to hug and show off your new figure in all the right places, where as regular clothes get bigger everywhere as you go up in size, adding extra bulk that you just don't need.

How do I work out what size to order?

· If you were a size 8 to 10, then you will wear an Extra Small
· If you were a size 12, then you will wear a Small.
· If you were a size 14 to 16, then you will wear a Medium.
· If you were a size 18, then you will wear a Large.
· If you were a size 20-22, then you will wear an Extra Large (where available).

If you fluctuate between two sizes, it is probably safer to round your size up. In maternity wear it is always better to have a little extra room for growth. We want you to have good growth space so you get the most out of your wardrobe and not to have to re-buy key pieces, because they didn't have enough growth space.

P.S. If you are lucky enough to be carrying twins or more please go up a size, you will need the room, we promise.

I am only three and a half months along, will maternity wear be huge on me?

We've thought of that! By using beautiful stretch fabrics our garments will grow with you and can be worn from those first early months until after your baby is born.

Have a look at our tummy guide above and work out which style will suit your individual needs.

How do I care for my maternity wear?

At belly button maternity we know that you will want to get a lot of wear out of your wardrobe and by using the highest quality fabrics we ensure that you can wash and wash your garments and they will still look great. We also understand that you have better things to do with your time than run to the dry cleaners, so most of our fabrics are machine washable.

Our motto is Funky, Fresh and Fun - we know that the better you look the better you will feel, and that is always better for your and your beautiful growing baby.
